From: IsraelP Subject: The Rozdol Pikholz Families Have DNA Too - Genealogy #77 Date: Mon, 03 Sep 2012 12:19:19 +0300 Dear Cousins - both Skalat and Rozdol, The subject line here is the title of my newest blog post. As usual, you can find it at http://allmyforeparents.blogspot.com A bit of explanation. The Skalaters among you have received notices from me several times in the last few weeks about the DNA project we are doing regarding the Skalat families. We did some testing, received some results, made some basic changes in the family structure - though these do not yet show up on the web site - and are proceeding with additional testing. I have explained much of this in three blog posts beginning with http://allmyforeparents.blogspot.co.il/2012/08/the-grandparents-of-hersch- pickholtz.html I am also putting together a lecture which is scheduled for two of the genealogy groups here in Israel (in Hebrew) and which I hope to propose for the Conference in Boston next summer. In the meantime, after I put up the third of the three Skalat DNA posts last week, I was asked by someone who is neither a Pikholz nor a genealogist whether I was planning on trying to use DNA to see if there is a connection between the Skalat families and the Rozdol families. (I was really sorry the question hadn't come from a Rozdol Pikholz, so I could have suggested that he take it upon himself.) So in this week's blog, I addressed the question of the Rozdol families and particularly their connection to the Skalat families. One person has suggested that he might want to carry that ball and I gave him an idea what might be involved. I'd be pleased to hear from others. The testing itself is a simple cheek swab, but it comes with a cost and some of the preferred testees may need some help with that. There is also the matter of the analysis. (We are doing our testing through an outfit called Family Tree DNA in Houston. The owner is Jewish, so he is more aware of the Jewish issues involved than folks like National Geographic or Ancestry. Plus I know him, so we speak directly when necessary. But the analysis is in the end our own.) Anyway, if this gets off the ground, some of the Rozdolers among you may be asked to participate. Some of the Skalaters, for sure, though a bit further down the road, after we have more results from the "first round.". Meantime, let me take this opportunity to wish all of you and your families a good and happy new year and that you be written and sealed in the Book of Life. Israel P. Jerusalem -- End --
